CLOVE OIL FOR TOOTHACHE : DOES IT WORK ?

Clove oil consists of a natural ingredient known as Eugenol. This eugenol has natural anesthetic and antibacterial effects and helps in reducing inflammation in the mouth. This provides temporary relief from severe toothache. But clove oil is to be used with caution as it has an unpleasant taste and ingestion of clove oil can cause burning of nose, throat and may cause upset stomach or diarrhea. It is to be avoided in case of children and young infants. The best way to use clove oil is in dilution with a carrier like Olive oil. Clove oil reduces pain and swelling when you have toothache, but a dental cavity is a systemic issue, and therefore clove is merely used to help with the symptoms of the toothache. After applying clove oil you may feel better, but the oil is only masking the symptoms of your problem – you should visit a dentist as soon as you can. Toothaches are usually caused by tooth decay, and the longer you delay before seeing a dentist, the worse the decay can become. When used in small amounts and in a diluted form, it’s safe and effective at relieving dental pain. But for long term relief, always see your dentist as the expert to treat your toothache.
